During my residency at MoulinSart, I led a collage workshop for visitors. On a table, a selection of vintage postcards from the local area immediately caught people’s attention. The first to reach for them were older participants: they recognized familiar towns, commented on how the landscape had changed, and shared memories. The postcard became a medium for oral transmission, a bridge between personal history and collective memory.

In parallel, I invited participants to reinterpret these images through collage. The concept was simple: draw three cards : a subject, an action, a setting, to spark a composition. For example : « A school of fish defying gravity in a grove ». Absurd combinaisons became the starting point for creation. Participants cut, assembled and layered elements, freeing themselves from realism to invent hybrid scenes where areas and worlds intertwined.

The visual reference, developed beforehand through research on the local community (native plants, emblematic trees, local fauna and flora), enriched the compositions. Inspired by Hannah Höch’s photomontages, the work sought to create a subtle tension: blending black and white with color and past with present.

Conceived as a tool for artistic mediation, the workshop revealed different forms of engagement depending on participant’s ages : for older participants, it became a space for memory and exchange. For younger ones, a playground for visual experimentation.
