In Béthune, in the Nord–Pas-de-Calais region, a community-based creative space hosted The Parloir: a device designed for listening to and recording personal stories. Designed as a space for exchange and memory, it invited residents to share fragments of their everyday lives, transforming these stories into a living archive of the place.
In this context, “telling” becomes a way of creating connections and shaping a collective portrait.
Here, Sophie shares her favorite recipe, while the small object she holds between her fingers records her voice. A few moments later, Olivia comes to listen to this testimony, alongside other stories and recipes already preserved in the device’s sound memory.
Over time, this collection of recordings forms a mosaic of voices and experiences. These objects encourage exchange, collect traces of the place, and make visible the collective dynamics that unfold.
